Counter-Culture?

If you've read any of my other blogs about household/beauty products and all of the hidden chemicals lurking inside of them, you probably know that I am always on the look-out for new non-toxic products.  (And if you haven't read my other blogs, check out my top ten lists of "yuck-free" products here and here).  So when my friend told me about a new company called Beautycounter and their mission to provide products that are free of harmful chemicals, I was all ears.

When the company's owner learned that 1 in 2 men and 1 in 3 women will be diagnosed with cancer (a nauseating reality) and that the U.S. hasn't passed a federal law to regulate the ingredients used in personal care products since 1938 (yes, that is true), she knew it was time for a change.  So she started her own company - that bans more than 1,500 harmful ingredients in their products.

Sounds good to me!  So I agreed to try out some sample products and see what I think.  I'll be trying their "Essentials" skincare line including the Routine Clean Cream Cleanser, Gentle Exfoliator Polishing Cream, Every Day AM Hydrating Cream, Every Night PM Hydrating Cream and Any Time Eye Cream.

I'll also be trying the Lustro Face Oil #1 - Calendula.

I started using them last night and my initial reaction was: 1) They didn't make my skin break out (which is good for me!), 2) My skin felt very soft and smooth after I used them, 3) There wasn't a lot of lather (which is normal for sulfate-free products and actually a good thing!) and 4) I'm not sure yet if the moisturizer will be hydrating enough for me.

My skin right now is drier than usual because of the adrenal fatigue (in fact, I have been using a Dr.-developed line especially for those with adrenal fatigue) and have had to put on multiple layers of moisturizer lately to even get past that "tight" feeling on my face.  So it might not even be that the moisturizer isn't hydrating enough for me.  It may be that I just have to use more than usual for a little while.  So I will hold off a few days before I make any decision on that.

I'll report back my results when the samples are all used up, but in the meantime, check out more about the company and their products here:  http://www.beautycounter.com/.  And if you've already checked out their products, let me know what you think below!
