I can hardly even believe that I am going to be moving in to my tiny house in just 12 days. Crazy! What started as a dream last year about this time is soon to be a reality! Now that it's down to crunch time, a million little questions float in and out of my head every day. And my poor builder gets to answer them all in my consistently arriving emails.
Which wall in the bathroom will my cute little hook from IKEA go on? (yes, little things like this matter when every inch of space is accounted for)
How many baskets do I need to buy for storage under my built-in couch?
Will my jewelry box fit in the loft or should I sell it at the yard sale?
Ahh yes... the infamous yard sale that I've been planning for what seems like forever. I sorted through all of my stuff months ago and made a massive pile in the garage. But this past weekend was when I had to actually go through it piece by piece and price everything. Some people may not do that but I know myself and I would be annoyed if people were constantly coming up to me and asking how much things were. Not to mention, that's how I was brought up with yard sales when I was a kid - everything was VERY organized.
So this coming weekend, I will try to sell as much of it as possible (and make some extra $$!) and then whatever is left, is going straight to Goodwill! And all that will be left will be my little pile of four boxes or so, a couple storage totes, my clothes/shoes in my closet and my mattress. Ahh... I can feel the freedom already!
Then the following weekend, I will participate in the Color Run (or Color Walk for me) on Saturday and then have my tiny house delivered on Sunday! Woohoo!!
I’m so excited to finally decorate and be able to really give it a “Jenn” feel. My builder has done an awesome job on the outside and just sent me these updated photos with the new stain on the siding. LOVE the color.
Now he’s working on finishing up the inside. These are a few photos of it in progress… you can see the white panel walls, the dark wood floor (so pretty!) and my purple accent wall in the loft. I also asked him to give me a half-wall at the edge of the loft to give the illusion of privacy and to keep my puppies from falling off in the middle of the night!
You’re probably thinking, like I was, how is he going to get the rest of it done in less than 2 weeks? But that’s what hired hands are for. :-) When all is said and done, I will have a built-in couch, a breakfast bar, cabinets and mini appliances in my kitchen, a staircase leading up to the loft and a closet at the front. Hard to imagine that all is going to fit in there, isn’t it?
Here’s a preview of my staircase… the open sections that are built-in will be used for random storage of small items and probably some closet overflow since I’m still not sure where all my clothes are going to go… even after several massive clean-outs!
I’ve got the throw pillows to turn my built-in couch into a comfy one, the bar stools to put at the breakfast bar, a throw rug to make my loft more “homey” and some outdoor chairs for the porch and the deck.
In other words, I’m ready to go! :-)
And now that I finally have a place to put it, I have somewhere TO go! In typical Jenn-fashion, God was apparently trying to tell me where to go for a couple months now but I wasn’t hearing Him. I tend to have to have Him slap me upside the head since whispering doesn’t seem to work on me.
I had asked my pastor’s wife to send out an email for me asking if anyone in the church had a spot and only ONE person responded. I took the person’s name and email but I just filed it away because it was further out from the area I wanted to be in. Fast forward to this week, where I was only 2 weeks away from delivery and still didn’t have a spot to deliver to, and I decided to follow up on the lead.
Wouldn’t you know it’s a great little spot, has all the hook-ups and privacy that I need, will have a fence for the puppies and is owned by a wonderful couple that already know all about tiny houses! Not to mention it will fit in with my budget perfectly.
Funny how that works when you finally listen up and stop trying to figure everything out yourself or make it work out the way you want. And the thing is, it’s really not that far out anyway because it’s close to the highway so I can zip to anywhere I want within about ten minutes.
It does just give me one more confirmation (after so many others!) though that I am in the middle of God’s will in all of this and that I am on the right track!
So… the next update should be when I am all moved in and set up! I will, of course, post a video tour at that time and for those of you that are local, send out a housewarming invite shortly after! :-)
Until then, keep your dreams BIG and your worries tiny!
