Over the course of just four years, I went through what could be described as an unusual amount of loss. In that short period of time, I lost:
-My father (to stage four cancer)-My mother who was also my BFF (to stage four cancer)-My dog that I had for 14 years-Two significant friendships (including my best friend since 4th grade)-My engagement/relationship (which was also abusive)-My job (which I had taken to escape a highly toxic work environment)-My health (when I ended up with advanced adrenal fatigue)
Needless to say, it was a lot to handle. But surprisingly, instead of spiraling downward into a pit of despair, I did exactly the opposite. In fact, I can actually say that I am more joyful, more peaceful and more content now than I have ever been.
So, how is that possible? How can you lose almost everything in your life and come out joyous and victorious on the other side?
By getting back to basics and becoming the person that I was created to be. By getting rid of all of the excess, all of the noise, all of the distractions and all of the lies that I had been trapped in for years. And by letting go of attachments to things that didn’t matter.
By deciding to stop going through the motions and just surviving.
And that is when I actually started living.
